Bank of Uganda Warns Public Against Using Currency Notes for Gift Decorations

he Management of Bank of Uganda has issued a warning especially against Florists, Designers and Gifting Stylists for misusing Currency Notes.

The warning issued today, 22nd November, 2023 says Designers have of recent been using currency notes for making bouquets and other like creations.

“This mainly involves use of brand new currency notes that are stuck together using glue, cello-tape, pins, clips and other adhesives as part of Floral Bouquets for various social events and gifting ceremonies,” points out the statement.

The Central Bank warns that this practice destroys the utility of Bank Notes making them unusable in cash processing and distribution equipment such as Counting Machines and ATMs.

The practice is also leads to early withdrawal of the damaged Bank Notes from circulation and then their replacement at a cost born by the Tax Payer.
