Former Theatre Assistant Charged with Corruption in Anti-Corruption Court

Arua, Uganda | This afternoon, a former Theatre Assistant at Arua Regional Referral Hospital, Wamana Paul, was charged with corruption before the Anti-Corruption Court.

It is alleged that on May 29, 2022, while being employed as a theatre assistant at Arua Regional Referral Hospital, Paul solicited and received a bribe from the parents of an infant in exchange for performing a surgical operation on the child.

The parents initially gave him UGX210,000 with the promise of more to follow.

However, on the day of the operation, Paul failed to attend to the patient, causing significant delays. Tragically, the child passed away as a result of these delays.

Paul has been remanded until March 26, 2023, as investigations continue.
