New Bishop of Luwero COU Car Knocks One Dead In Bombo, Driver Arrested

On the morning of March 20, 2024, a tragic accident occurred involving a Land Cruiser Prado, registration number UBC 611C, owned by the newly appointed Bishop of Luwero COU and driven by Kenneth Manyire. The vehicle was involved in a fatal collision with a boda boda rider.

The accident took place around 11:20 AM at Mile 20 Bombo on the Gulu Kampala Highway, according to a statement from ASP Twiineamazima Sam, the PRO of Savannah. The collision resulted in the death of Matovu Hassan, a 39-year-old resident of Nakatonya, Sedetula, Nyimbwa in Luwero District, who was riding the motorcycle.

Initial reports suggest that the Land Cruiser Prado, driven by Manyire and leading a police vehicle to collect the new Bishop of Luwero Church of Uganda, overtook the lead car and subsequently hit a boda boda cyclist.

Following the collision, the victim was immediately transported to Bombo General Military Hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

Manyire, after the accident, proceeded to Mile 19 Bombo, where he parked the vehicle, reported the incident, and then attempted to flee the scene. However, with the assistance of the commander of the police lead car and crew, traffic officers at a checkpoint were able to apprehend him. He is currently detained at Bombo Police Station.

The vehicle was en route to collect Venerable Canon Wilson Kisekka, the Bishop-Elect of Luwero Diocese, in preparation for his consecration and enthronement on the upcoming Sunday.
