80-Year-Old Woman Found Strangled In Her Home

Police in Isingiro district are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder of an 80-year-old woman who was found strangled in her own home.

The victim, identified as Joy Kitarinyenda, resided in Kasaana I cell, Birere Sub-county of Isingiro District. The incident came to light when her lifeless body was discovered inside her house, with the doors locked from the outside.

Residents reported that the last person seen with the deceased was Richard Bamwine, a 42-year-old man who was known to be her companion. This encounter took place on March 30. However, when the body was found, Bamwine was nowhere to be found. Upon questioning, he claimed to have left her in good health as he departed for Easter holidays.

SP Samson Kasasira, the police spokesperson for the Rwizi Region, confirmed that the victim’s body exhibited signs of strangulation, including scratch marks on the neck and other areas. The motive behind the crime remains unknown at this time.

As part of the ongoing investigation, two individuals have been apprehended to assist the authorities in their inquiries. The suspects have been identified as Epharse Nuwabeine, the daughter of the deceased, and Richard Bamwine, the aforementioned companion.

In order to determine the exact cause of death, the victim’s body has been transferred to the mortuary at Mbarara Regional Hospital, where a postmortem examination will be conducted. Police is working diligently to gather evidence and shed light on this tragic incident’s circumstances.
