UPDF, Police Seal off Kwata Zone; Recover 4 Bombs

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Uganda Police Force have cordoned of Kwata zone, Komamboga, Kawempe Division, Kampala, after receiving intelligence about the presence of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the vicinity.

The UPDF First Division spokesperson, Maj Charles Kabona said that the bombs were found in a house rented by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists.

“This morning (Saturday), we are here, in a place called Kwata in Komamboga – that is Kawempe Division. We have been telling people that we have some negative elements or terrorists especially from the ADF who are trying to attack our country, kill our people using especially bombs, conducting assassinations,” said Maj Kabona.

”Therefore, this week, we got information from some of our people and our intelligence that some people came and rented house in this place, and these are people we have been looking for,” he added.

Maj Kabona confirmed that four bombs have been discovered alongside other military equipment.

“The experts are doing their work to make that they explode these bombs. So far there are four bombs [but] there are other military ammunition, bullets, magazines and other items that belong to the military,” he said.

“These are part of the ADF terrorist group, and there are some who are still at large, but what we can, with our intelligence, we shall identify them and arrest them,” he added.

Previously, security forces arrested a number of ADF suspects whom Maj Kabona said are helping security in conducting intelligence.

Some of the previous arrests include; a one Kalanza Gustin. He was arrested in Masaka, and security says he is a terrorist.
A one Sulaiman Nsubuga was also arrested in Busia while Swaleh Abubskar was picked from Zambia.

“Therefore, the operation to arrest these negative elements has been going on, not only in Uganda, but also the boundaries of Uganda. We shall not rest, we shall make sure that these criminals are identified , isolated and arrested,” Maj Kabona said.

He noted that these are commanded by a one identified as Panisha Nsubuga Meddie Nkalubo who is believed to be hiding in the DRC .

Kabona urged members of the public to be vigilant and report suspected negative elements to the authorities.

Authorities blame ADF for conducting terror attacks in Uganda.
