Three children injured as fox attacks two families in Busia

A rabid wild fox has attacked two families in Solo C Busia town injuring three children.

Jimmy Ngolobe, the District Natural Resources Officer identifies the victims as 3-year old Miracle Akol, 13-year old Dauson Mugwabi and 12-year old Amisi Dikusoka.

KFM spoke to the father of the chilren who were attacked by the fox Silver Kirya and he narrated.

“ it entered directly and stated biting kids and then it ran to the neighbors and bit the third kid that’s what I saw at night, we tried fighting it but it was harsh, but as you know we were many and got help from the neighbor.” Mr. Kirya said.

We also spoke to Wyclif Walube, the Busia District Veterinary Officer

” Two families were attacked by a fox and three people were injured, they came here today and i refferd them to go and get vaccinated on post-exposure, they brought the fox along and we opperrated it to get some samples, and the results showed that it had rabbies” Mr. Walube said.

“Cases of people being attacked by wild animals have been increasing, because in the last six months we have registerd three cases and they are fox attack cases, it is because the foxes lives in wetlands and when it rains and water levels raise they tend to leave and look for other places which are near the homestead and they end up in the communities.” Mr. Walube added.
