Coffee Dealer Detained for Allegedly Causing Death of Rukungiri’s Kings Hotel Manager

A coffee dealer identified as Sebikaru William has been arrested by the Police in Rukungiri District on allegations of causing the untimely death of Muhwezi Justus. The incident reportedly occurred when Sebikaru, a coffee dealer in Rukungiri Municipality, collided with the motorcycle on which Muhwezi was traveling, and subsequently ran over him.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman, informed journalists that Sebikaru is currently in custody at Rukungiri Central Police Station. A case has been registered against him under reference CRB 1532/2023 to aid the ongoing police investigations.

According to reports, Sebikaru, after knocking down Muhwezi along Rukungiri – Ntungamo Road, fled the scene in his vehicle. The police later located and towed his abandoned vehicle from Buyanja Town Council to Rukungiri Central Police Station.

During Muhwezi’s burial on December 21st, 2023, District Police Commander Musa Tibakirana assured mourners that efforts were underway to ensure Sebikaru’s arrest for his actions.

In a separate incident in Rukiga District, the Police confirmed the arrest of Onesimus Tumukunde, suspected of killing his father. Tumukunde allegedly collaborated with his mother to assault his father, who was discovered dead the following morning. While the woman was promptly arrested, Tumukunde went into hiding.

Elly Maate updated journalists, stating that Tumukunde was apprehended at Rwahi Stage along Kabale – Mbarara Road in Ntungamo District as he planned to escape to an unknown destination. He was subsequently taken to Rukiga Police Station for formal charging.
