Gov’t Opens Up Immigration and Passport Center in Jinja

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has inaugurated its fifth immigration and passport control center as part of its efforts to decentralize services.

This new center joins existing ones in Kampala, Mbale, Gulu, and Mbarara. Lt. Gen. Joseph Musanyufu, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to bringing services closer to the people, stating, “This center is an indication that we fulfill our commitments.”

Musanyufu highlighted that the initiative aims to alleviate congestion in Kampala and enhance monitoring to curb corruption. He cautioned against illegal payments for services at the new center, emphasizing that services are provided free of charge.

Maj. Gen Apollo Kasiita Gowa, the Director of Citizenship and Immigration Control, commended the opening of the new center, emphasizing its comprehensive services, eliminating the need for individuals to travel to Kampala.

He also cautioned against the perception of the center as exclusively for Basoga, emphasizing its accessibility to all, including Indians, Asians, and others in the community.
