Zombo District RDC Dies On The Way To The Hospital

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Zombo District in the West Nile region Rt Lt Col Pius Alitema died today Friday 08th March 2024 en route to Arua Regional Referral Hospital.

The news was confirmed to our correspondent by the Zombo LCV Chairperson James Oruna Oyulu saying “It has just happened, it’s quite unfortunate”.

The cause of his death is still unclear. Alitema replaced RDC Kanjoyingi in 2022, and he has been applauded for handling land disputes and other corruption-related issues by the Zombo residents.

Lt Col Pius Alitamena now becomes the Second Museveni RDC to die in a space of just one month after Hoima Deputy RCC Hajjat Stella Nanyanzi who succumbed to Diabetes at Mulago Hospital last month.

Alitema also becomes the fifth Museveni RDC to die in just three years after Joseph Sekasamba who was Deputy RDC of Kitagwenda District (died on 20th January 2023), Nsereko Mutumba who was RDC Kayunga District (Died on 3rd August 2022) and Balasa Ogajjo who was RDC Namayingo District (died on 17th August 2022).

Just Last month, Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Hoima West division Sarah Nanyanzi passed away at Mulago Hospital after she had been admitted on Friday last week due to complications from diabetes and hypertension, according to her senior colleague. RCC Badru Mugabi.

Nanyanzi, the third deputy RCC of Hoima West Division in two years, succeeded Micheal Muhoozi and Kasibante. She took office on July 26th, 2023.
