Anti-Corruption Unit Arrests District Education Officer For Charging P.7 Pupils Shs15,000 UNEB Registration Fee

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit has arrested the acting District Education Officer (DEO) of Kaberamaido, Richard Elyebu.

The arrest was made under the instructions of the State Minister for Economic Monitoring, Beatrice Akello.

Elyebu is accused of charging P.7 pupils 15,000/ for UNEB examination registration, an allegation that has stirred controversy in the district.

Minister Akello is currently in Kaberamaido for her routine monitoring of government projects. The arrest of Elyebu during her visit has brought the issue of corruption in the education sector into sharp focus.

However, the DEO, Denise, has denied the allegations, stating that it is the headteachers who charge students that money. According to Denise, the funds are used to cater for photography and production of photo albums among other things.

In related news, the District Commercial Officer, David Eyamu, has also been arrested. Eyamu is accused of neglect of duty by failing to organize EMYOGA SACCOS in some enterprises such as tailoring and journalism. This arrest underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring accountability and efficiency in public service.

The Anti-Corruption Unit’s actions have sent a strong message to public servants in the district and beyond. As the investigations continue, the residents of Kaberamaido await the outcome, hopeful for justice and transparency in the management of public resources.
