Couple Killed in Gruesome Attack in Nakasongola District: Ex-Lover Suspected To Be The Killer

In Nakasongola District, local residents and police are on the lookout for a suspect believed to have committed a brutal double murder in Migyeera Town’s Posta Zone on Thursday.

The victims, identified by police on Friday morning, were Hadiija Nangobi, 44, and her husband Vincent, 40. Sam Twineamazima, the spokesperson for the Savannah Region Police, informed journalists that the prime suspect, who is currently on the run, has been identified.

The couple was reportedly attacked around 8pm by a man believed to be Nangobi’s former lover. The attacker used a panga to kill the couple. This horrific event was witnessed by Nangobi’s 12-year-old daughter.

According to local residents, the attacker exploited a power outage in the area to carry out his plan while the couple was preparing dinner at their rented home. The alarm was raised by a young girl who had witnessed the brutal killing and recognized the man responsible. She ran from the direction of the home to alert others.

The victims were known to be involved in the charcoal business, with most of their customers located in Migyeera Town.

Tonny Mukiibi, the LC3 Chairperson of Migyeera Town Council, noted that the area had been relatively peaceful with few murder-related criminal cases reported in the past three months. He described the shocking double murder as a wakeup call for increased neighborhood vigilance, given that the attacker was able to carry out his plan single-handedly.

Preliminary findings from the police indicate that the suspect had a disagreement with Nangobi in January 2024, which led to their separation. Nangobi is reported to have married Vincent in February.

Before fleeing after the incident, the suspect had been living in Nalukonge Zone LC1, Central Ward in Migyeera Town Council. Investigation teams are currently exploring the possibility of a revenge attack by a spurned lover leading to this horrific incident.

As of the time of reporting, the bodies of the deceased had been transported to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for postmortem examination.
