A tragic incident is currently under investigation by the police in Tororo district. A bus, owned by Busitema University, was involved in a fatal accident with a 26-year-old plumber along the Tororo – Busolwe road. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday evening, involved a bus with the registration number UAJ420X and a motorcycle registered under UGA 896L.
The victim, identified as Aaron Matanda, was a professional plumber residing in Mbale city. Moses Mugwe, the spokesperson for Bukedi South police, reported that both the bus driver and the rider were traveling towards Tororo town from Nagongera town council.
The accident happened when they reached Morikiswa village, located next to Morikiswa Technical School. The rider was knocked down as he tried to overtake the bus. Matanda was attempting to overtake the bus at a high speed when he hit contours along the road. This caused him to fall off his motorcycle, and tragically, the rear tires of the bus crushed his head.
The police promptly responded to the scene and transported the body to Tororo hospital mortuary. The bus driver has been arrested to assist with the ongoing investigations. Preliminary findings suggest that the rider was overspeeding at the time of the incident. Further investigations are underway to confirm these initial findings.
