Michael Onya 21, a student offering a bachelor of education at Gulu University, has been arrested and detained at Kakira central police station following the allegation that he reportedly engaged in love affairs with a 11-year-old juvenile.
Reports indicate that Onya practised the unlawful act on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, when he lured the victim using deceptive means of teaching her jumping rope games at around 10 am.
A brother to Ruth Ameto a security guard attached to ISIS private security company belonging to Madhavani Group, residing in oil mill camp in Kakira sugar estate, Onya has been staying with his sister, neighbouring the home where the victim comes from.
Police say Onya was attracted to the swinging and skipping skills of the victim during the jumping rope games.
SP James Mubi, Kiira region police spokesperson, said according to previous records, Onya has been gifting her with chapatis and jolly jus juice, especially in the absence of responsible persons in the neighborhood.
“On the fateful day, the suspect used forceful means to gain entry to the victim who had locked herself in her sister’s house following deceptive measures of the suspect that he had bought for her a new rope to be used in the jumping rope games,” Mubi said on Wednesday afternoon.
“After allegedly defiling the victim, she became helpless and very unconscious with too much pain but kept on alarming for help until neighbors came for her rescue and alerted Kakira police that immediately swung into action and apprehended the culprit,” Mubi added.
He said exhibits, including a knicker and skirt among others, were retrieved pending submission to government analytical laboratory for expert opinion examination and analysis.
According to a medical examination conducted, the victim experienced first-time and painful rupture.
Mubi said comprehensive prosecution led investigations are ongoing as legal actions await against the suspect.
He is facing charges of aggravated defilement.
