One Dead As Two Muslim Men Fight In A Bar Over Waitress

Police in Mayuge District have arrested a man who allegedly punched a colleague to death in a brawl over a waitress at Sober’s Bar and Lodge in Kikubo village, Buwaya sub-county.

The dispute, reportedly over a waitress, resulted in the death of Edirisa Wabwire, as confirmed by Ms Diana Nandaula, the spokesperson for Busoga East Police.

The suspect, currently detained at Mayuge Central Police Station, is said to have struck Wabwire on the head, causing him to fall and subsequently die.

On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the police collected the body from the bar and transported it to the mortuary at Mayuge Health Centre IV for further investigation. Murder charges have been filed against the suspect.

Both the deceased and the suspect, who are Muslims, were reported to have remained at the bar until approximately 2:30 am.

The father of the deceased, Mr Ali Wabwire, received the tragic news of his son’s death around 4am on Tuesday.

He expressed his financial inability to afford the burial expenses and appealed to the judiciary for justice and to the government for financial assistance to ensure a dignified burial for his son.

Mr Twaha Ikoba, the owner of the bar, attributed the incident to drug abuse by both parties involved.

He stated that the substances sold at his bar could not incite such violent behavior, implying that external influences were at play. He also noted that this was an unprecedented event in the bar’s five-year history.
