Five UPDF Soldiers Injured in Highway Accident

An accident on the Kisoro-Rubuguri highway has resulted in injuries to five soldiers from the UPDF. The soldiers were returning from a belated Women’s Day celebration in Kisoro district and were en route to the Rubuguri playground when the incident occurred.

The accident took place near Kamenankuli, in the vicinity of the Rubuguri playground. The soldiers were being transported in a Uganda Prisons truck, registration number UG 0144U, which lost control and rolled over multiple times.

Joshua Ainembabazi, a witness to the accident, stated that the truck was traveling at a high speed when the driver lost control.

The accident was confirmed by Elly Maate, the Police spokesperson for the Kigezi region. He added that the injured soldiers are currently being treated at Rubuguri Health Center IV.

The Rubuguri-Kisoro Road, where the accident occurred, is situated in the Bukimbiri constituency. The constituency, known for its hilly landscape and agriculture, suffers from a poor road network.
