Four Arrested Over Gang-Rape, Murder Of 43-Year-Old Woman

Police in Oyam District are delving into the puzzling death of a 43-year-old woman. The woman, Betty Acio, a resident of Wanglobo Village, was discovered hanging from a tree at Dere Primary School in the same locality.

Acio, who is now deceased, had reportedly moved back to her parents’ home after separating from her husband, the father of her five children. Locals say that Acio had been battling severe alcohol addiction.

The North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, confirmed the incident. He expressed regret over the brutal end to her life. Initial findings suggest that the victim was subjected to gang rape, murdered, and her body was then hanged on a tree where it was later found.

Investigators from Oyam Central Police Station documented the scene as detectives began probing the circumstances leading to the woman’s death. The police team promptly arrived at the scene, removed the body, and transported it to Anyeke Health Center IV for a post-mortem examination.

At present, Okema stated that four individuals have been detained to assist with the investigation, and murder charges have been filed against them. The suspects, who are currently held at Oyam Central Police Station, are Denis Adwere, James Akwanga, James Otim, and Bonny Ocen.

Okema appealed to the relatives of the deceased for calm, assuring them that the police are thoroughly investigating the case and will ensure justice is served to the bereaved family.
