UPDF Soldier Dies In Motorcycle Accident In Kisoro

Kisoro police in Western Uganda have confirmed that a soldier of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) sustained fatal head injuries after falling off his motorcycle.

The accident occurred on Wednesday, May 01, at around 8:30pm at a place called Busamba, in the Southern Division of Kisoro municipality, along the Kisoro-Chanika highway.

The victim who other road users rescued was rushed to a nearby health facility but died on arrival.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesman, identified the deceased as RA/059053 Warrant Officer 1(WO1), Ramazan Kamugisha, 49, attached to Nyakabande 35 Battalion, Kisoro district.

According to the traffic police, the soldier riding motorcycle registration number UEJ271X, TVS Star, was going back to the barracks at Nyakabande but on reaching Busamba, he failed to negotiate a sharp corner and fell in the middle of the road, sustaining head and chest injuries.

He was rushed to Kisoro Hospital and later transferred to Mutolere Hospital where he died upon arrival.

A postmortem was carried out at the same hospital.

By the time of filing this story, the motorcycle was still parked at Kisoro Central Police Station pending inspection by the inspectorate of vehicles and inquiries continued.
