Security guard shoots dead man for ‘mistakenly’ tresspasing in banana plantation

Police in Rukungiri is investigating a tragic incident involving a shooting that resulted in the death of a young man. The suspect, identified as Nicholas Ainembabazi, a security guard at Millennium Security Company, allegedly shot and killed 22-year-old Kenneth Masanyu in Rugoma.

The incident took place on the 5th of March, 2024, at around 10 PM, when the deceased, who had gone to visit his relatives, mistakenly trespassed into a banana plantation near Kazaire Julius’ compound.

Upon being confronted by Ainembabazi, the security guard, Masanyu reportedly failed to comply with orders to sit down, leading to the fatal shooting.

Following the incident, police in Rukungiri was notified by the area manager of Millennium Security Company, Eria Tumwesigye, and the suspect was subsequently taken into custody for questioning.

The crime scene was thoroughly examined, statements were recorded from eyewitnesses, and the body of the deceased was taken to Rwakabengo HC III mortuary for further examination through a postmortem.

As investigations continue into this tragic event, the community is left in shock and mourning the loss of a young life. The police are working diligently to uncover the facts surrounding the shooting and bring justice to those involved.

ASP Elly Maate, the PRO of Kigezi, has urged the public to remain calm as the authorities work towards resolving this devastating incident. More information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
