The Anti-Corruption Unit of the State House has initiated the process of retrieving stolen fertilizers from Container Village and other markets.
The Unit is presently probing a case where a Turkish firm, Iskenderun Fertilizer Inc., was swindled out of over Shs 2.2 billion in a deal involving fertilizer supply.
Allegedly, from May to September 2023, a group of fraudsters, spearheaded by Ronnie Mukasa and his company, Kureha (U) Ltd., tricked the Turkish firm into shipping 28 containers, each filled with 540 bags of fertilizers, to Uganda. After receiving the shipment, the fraudsters ceased all communication and began selling the fertilizers in the market.
Some of the stolen fertilizers have been recovered from around Container Village as a result of the ongoing investigations.
This afternoon, the unit collaborated with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) of Police and the leaders of Container Village to urge traders to return the stolen items and assist in the investigations.
So far, eight individuals have been arrested in connection with this case.
